I started researching into dreadlocks to further my research into different hair textures I could use within my wig to create character to my witch. In some of my initial designs I have included basic dreadlocks so need to research into the different types and textures because all dreadlocks don't look exactly the same. I really like the idea of creating dreadlocks because have a individual appearance and I could experiment with ways to create and style them.
There were lots of different types of dreadlocks throughout the book, they all had very different appearences. A big factor to the dreadlocks having different appearences was the texture of the hair and the culture the person was from.
The dreadlocks on the left were created from the girl not brushing her hair from the age of 10 and the hair just slowly matting. Her dreadlocks look completely different to the ones above which were created in varois ways showing the importances of how depending on what technique you use to create dreadlocks will effect the final look of them.
From a makeup perspective I really like the texture and overall look of the ladies dreadlocks in the picture to the left.
Although the image is black and white it appears that the ends of her dreadlocks are alot lighter which I like.
I love the different textures within the hair in the image to the far left. Combinding different techniques with hair to create different textures is something I am hoping to experiment with to add character to the final stlye of the hair.

I then met someone else with different types of dreadlocks. I think they visually look really interesting with all the bright colours. I asked about how they were created and underneath the hair is dreaded then fabric, wool and beads have been tightly wrapped around, she called them dread extensions as they were made a lot longer than her natural hair. She made them herself and said the tip was to wrap the wool around really tightly. I think they have a lot of character about them and like how they look different to normal dreads made with hair.

Looking at Dreadlocks up Close
I was able to look up close and really feel the dreadlocks. This was really useful as i was able to ask questions about how he created his dreadlocks and could feel the texture of them. These dreadlocks had taken years to create and grow (roughly 6 years). I noticed how the dreadlocks at the ends were much thinner than at the top and the colour of them was much lighter. Pretty much all of his hair was dreaded and in some of the dreadlocks he added pieces of metal he had collected for decoration. This was a really useful part of my reserch because made me consider how I was going to create these dreadlocks which when are naturally created take years.
