Museum of Moving Image
When I was in New York I was lucky enough to visit the museum of moving image. Throughout the museum there was a impressive collection of behind the scenes knowledge all film related.
I was fascinated by all aspects from the makeup displays of products used on certain films to the face cast moulds of actors/actresses and prosthetics used on that specific film but the area I was most interested in was the wig collection.
This shows the wig template made for Bette Davis. As written in the description the wooden block head has been customised and carved into the shape of Bette Davis' head. This would ensure an accurate fitted wig for Davis as the wig would be made on top of this block head.
To the left shows the custom block head and measurement cap made from Bob Kelly wig creations. It talks through the wig measurements which need to be taken and brief steps in creating the measurement cap.

Above shows a uncompleted wig. The description beside briefly discusses how the wig is constructed. This was really helpful because pointed out key things to consider when designing and making a wig like how thick do I want/need the wig and if I wanted a thick wig how am I going to make it as light as possible for the model.
I took many pictures of all the wigs there but the most relevant to this project is the wig to the left which was a wig used for one of the main characters in the film The Witches of Eastwick. I loved the thickness of the hair on this wig and how it had been styled with crazy tight curls.
The wig colour was very dark brown but had at least 3-4 different tones of brown hair making it look natural.
Harry Potter Studios London
Visting the Harry Potter studios london there were many different sections of behined the scenes props, costumes, creatures and sets. There was a hair and makeup section which showcased a display of wigs from the films. I loved how unique each wig was to the individual character. The colour, cut and style of each wig was very distinctive for the spesific character.
